| Bio: | Hi! My name is Elisabeth Bacarella. I am married to Marc, a wonderful, stubborn, difficult and delightful (yes, all of that at once! LOL) man. We have been blessed with six beautiful children whom we homeschool and attempt to "train up in the way they should go"... with firm and loving guidance. Marc is a professional woodworker. Once upon a time he was a long-haul truck driver, but the "blessing" of an accident with a drunk driver has led to him coming home full-time to be a stay at home dad. He makes wooden jigsaw puzzles and artisan pieces, as well as furniture (he specializes in bunkbeds). Marc also maintains our amazing home garden that supplies the bulk of our vegetables from October through May each year. He uses the garden to teach the children about horticulture and nutrition, and all of them love fresh vegetables more than any other food. I have yet to have cherry tomatoes actually make it all the way in to the house! I am a full time nursing student and full time patient care technician at the local Catholic hospital. While it's been a bit of a change having Mommy go out to work while Daddy stays home, it has been fascinating for me to follow my heart into the field of labor and delivery nursing. I work with the most amazing group of women in the world and adore each and every one of them. There is nothing like watching the miracle of birth, even in a hospital setting, many times over each day. I fully agree with Mark Twain who once said, "A baby is God's way of saying that the world should continue." Over the next 4-5 years I will continue with my education through my RN, my BSN (Bachelor's of Science in Nursing) and my CNM (a master's degree as a certified nurse midwife). It's a long row to hoe, but the rewards are so worth it! In addition, I am continuing my education in the fields of lactation, childbirth education, perinatal fitness and both birth and postpartum doula-"ing".... (okay, that's not a word... you know what I mean!) I am also pursuing further education in the areas of herbal healing, aromatherapy and massage. I look forward to merging the best from both Western and Eastern medicine in my future practice as a women and children's healthcare practitioner. Alison (a.k.a. "Sissy") is 13. Yes, I am the mother of a teenage girl. GULP! Actually, Alison is a delightful (if somewhat scatterbrained... sorry, she gets that from me!) young lady who has a heart of gold. She is beautiful (but doesn't know it yet) both inside and out. I have never met a person of any age who Alison cannot talk with and get along with. She volunteers at the local radio station for the blind and the local public radio station. Next summer she will volunteer at the hospital I work at. Joey (a.k.a. "Stuff") is 9. He is the most wonderful young man. Sturdy, studious, determined, steady, and thorough. He is one of the most sensible and down-to-earth young boys I have ever met. But don't let his slow and steady ways fool you... he's as bright as they come, even if he does like to take his time gathering his thoughts. He may not talk as much as his sisters (hey, who on the planet does???) but when he does open his mouth to speak, it is so much fun seeing how his brain and thought processes are developing. Marc and I joke that he's going to be our future midwestern farmer with a sweet little wife and a dozen children..... Jonathan (a.k.a. "Bear") is 7. As firmly as his brother is attached to the ground, Jonny has his feet also firmly planted... in the clouds! The king of "woolgathering", Jonny doesn't like to show people just how bright he really is. But get him to tell you a story sometime and you're in for a treat... Jonny is a master story-teller in the making. I don't know if he's going to be an artist, a writer, a director, an actor.... or something else entirely putting his amazing creativity to use in some way I simply can't yet foresee. I still want to figure out how to take a two-week vacation inside his brain. It would have to be one of the happiest places on earth. Amber (a.k.a. "Squirt") is 4. Chatterbox doesn't even begin to describe her. Just trying to listen to her for an hour is enough to make anyone's brain tired. She's my little golden haired, green eyed beauty with a flair for dancing and wrapping fully grown men around her tiny little fingers (doubt me? You should see the amount of control that one has over my father... and just about every other adult male she's ever met!) She's no bubble headed blonde, though... she's altogether too smart for her own good. (The pediatrician once asked her "If a horse is big, a mouse is ______".... Amber slyly answered... "not a horse!".... the doctor didn't get the joke, but Mommy had a hard time keeping a straight face!) Amanda (a.k.a. "Monkey") is 1-1/2. She is a little Sherman tank... both in build and in determination. What she can't get through charm and manipulation she will attempt to acquire through persistance. I've known her to ask for a "coco"... her word for cookie... upwards of 100 times in an afternoon. She's tough to discipline for it, because how can you get upset with her sweet, non-whiny, "assume the sale" approach? You said no five minutes ago? No matter, she'll climb into your lap, smile up at you and ask yet again, "Coco? Coco peez?" Arielle (a.k.a. "Princess") is our littlest angel. Born November 7th, 2005, she is a quiet, sweet, attentive baby. She only fusses when hungry or wet, nurses like a champion and actually lets Mommy get a halfway decent night's sleep. When awake, she stares at the world with her big blue eyes (we'll see how long they stay blue) as if determined to take everything in at once. | |||||
